Civil War Living History Display This Weekend at Denver Downs Farm

13_SC_AndersonANDERSON, SC – Denver Downs Farm will host a Civil War Living History Display and Exhibition this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26-27, as part of the 2013 Corn Maze & Giant Pumpkin Patch. Corn maze visitors can walk through Infantry, Cavalry and Artillery camps set up by Civil War re-enactors on Saturday and Sunday until 5 p.m. There will be cannon demonstrations and skirmishes between Union and Confederate soldiers at 2 p.m. each day. All Civil War re-enactment activities are included in admission to the Corn Maze.

A favorite regional event, the 2013 Denver Downs Farm Corn Maze and Giant Pumpkin Patch will be open through November 3, with this year’s maze celebrating the Palmetto State’s great Clemson/University of South Carolina football rivalry. One of the largest corn maze events in the Southeast, the annual Denver Downs Farm Corn Maze & Giant Pumpkin Patch features a 10-acre maze and more than 30 activities for children and adults including hayrides and campfires, pumpkin picking, the Jumbo Jumping Pillow, the Giant Straw Barn, zip lining, mini mazes and much more.

The 2013 Denver Downs Corn Maze & Giant Pumpkin Patch is located at 4915 Clemson Boulevard (Hwy. 76) in Anderson, one mile north of Interstate 85, Exit 19B. Hours are: Thursdays 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.; Fridays 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.; and Sundays 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. The Maze is open for scheduled field trips and groups Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Admission to the annual Corn Maze & Giant Pumpkin Patch is $10 per person on Thursday and $12 per person Friday through Sunday. Children 24 months and under are admitted free. Discounted rates are available for groups of 25 or more. No reservations are needed for large groups, however reservations are required for weekday school field trips and preschool groups.

The Corn Maze & Giant Pumpkin Patch is presented by Denver Downs Farm, a South Carolina Century Farm owned and operated by the Garrison family of Anderson County SC since 1869. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Denver Downs was established as a cotton farm, transitioned to a dairy farm, and today is a working farm devoted to agri-tourism. Oct. 13 – Pumpkin Carving Contest

Oct. 20 – Clemson Day at The Maze (Clemson Tiger appearing at 3 p.m.)

Oct. 26-27 – Civil War Reenactment Weekend

Oct. 26 – Your First Flight “Hit the Patch Jack Halloween 5k” (Costumes welcome)

Oct. 27 – Costume Contest

Nov. 2 – Grandparents Day at The Maze

Additionally, corn-shucking contests will be held every Saturday and Sunday.
